Dumbphone Your IPhone
After years of active research I believe I've found the middle ground to dumphone your iPhone.
In a year like 2026 it's hard to completely make the transition without disrupting everyday tasks. Like the Blackberry, the development of the iPhone was revolutionary. Blackberry introduced email on the go and the concept of a computer in your pocket, iPhone perfected it.
We all know how significant a smartphone is in present day. It's not only your cellphone; it's your alarm clock, navigation system, camera (no memory card needed), and with the development of the App Store, everything is in the palm of your hand.
Alternatives aND Why They Didn't Work
(for me)
- Data never fully worked on these when inserting SIM.
- Slow
- Needed additional tech for everyday use
- Truly only good for call/text
with the rise of eSIM these become less of a seamless transition
- Smartphone you can close
- Camera quality was ok
- Best look, has a great selection of colors
- Did not need to carry additional tech around
- Heavily considering returning to this
- The 'smart dumbphone', size and look of a dumbphone ran on android systems
- Hotspot
- Had to bring my iPhone with me most of the time for things like Navigation, scanning QR codes
- Because of Google Play was able to use Uber, banking apps, WhatsApp, etc
After a few years of trying to stop using my iPhone and not being happy with the results, I went back. Although these all seemed great in concept, the world is now designed around smartphones. QR menus at restaurants, GPS, Notes - access to everyday items was a struggle without one.
I wanted a dumbphone as a way to escape, everything is now in the palm of your hand. Work/life balance is harder than ever as jobs now make you download apps in order to be able to work. Emails galore, social media influence, watching shows/movies on a 6 inch screen. You look around and everyone is on their phone - doomscrolling.
Don't even get me started on the weird relationships that people been built with A.I. chat bots. As we've made technological improvements, it seems as we've become hypnotized. Feeding off tech that was designed to get us addicted.
Current system
I started with figuring out what I wanted my phone to do
- Communication
- Navigation
- Organization
- Personalization
And what I didn't want it to do
- Social Media
- Way of procrastination
- Keep me from enjoying the world around me
Introducing... widgets! These changed the game in keeping my phone as effective as possible for my personal use. Everything I need is right in front of my face. The App Library holds the rest of the apps that I have to access on occasion (banking, grocery, parking apps) and when I need them, they are only a search away.
With how smart these phones are, I knew that with a bit of configuration I could figure out a system that works best for me. This system has kept me organized and inspires me to always be on top of the tasks I want to complete. It's like my own personal electronic planner.
